Kreg Robert Sailer 1965-2001

Mass of the Christian burial for Kreg Robert Sailer was at 10:30 a.m. today, April 9, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning.

Mr. Sailer, 36, of Urbandale and formerly of the Manning area, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 5, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a massive heart attack.

Father James McAlpin presided at the services. Lectors at the Mass were Paul and Leonard Grote. Gift bearers were Jason and Lori Anderson. Mass servers were Levi Stork, Linsey Croghan and Teresa Wurr. Eucharistic ministers were Lois Croghan and Melinda McDermott. Honorary casket bearers were Rob Dammann, Joe Karsten, Jim Hinners, Dan Rosonke, Ron McKay and Kevin Lemon. Casket bearers were Mike Grote, Tom Sailer, Mark Hamilton, John Bernholtz, Joe Rosener and Keith Stork. Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery at Manning. Military honors were by the American Legion Emil Ewoldt Post and Manning Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.  Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 14, 1965, in Carroll, he was a son of Leonard and Mary (Grote) Sailer. He grew up on the family farm east of Manning and graduated from- Manning High School in 1983. He worked for a short time in Oklahoma before entering the Army and serving as a generator mechanic at Fort Carson Colo. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa and worked at Southside Welding in Audubon for a few years. He then moved to Des Moines and worked as a machinist at Parr Manufacturing and Amatco. He was most recently employed as a low voltage and data-communication-service technician for Baker Electric.

He married Jill Anderson on Nov. 25, 2000, at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines. They lived in Urbandale. Mr. Sailer was a member of Local 347 Electricians' Union.

He enjoyed golfing and cooking and was a handyman.

Mr. Sailer is survived by his wife, Jill, of Urbandale; his parents, Leonard and Mary Sailer, of Manning; three sisters, Kim and her husband, Scott Barnard, of Manning, Kris and her husband, Dave Weitl, of Pine, Colo., and Karla and her husband, Mike Hamann, of Manning; two brothers, Kurt Sailer and Kevin Sailer, both of Waukee; a grandmother, Colette Grote, of Carroll; 10 nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; his parents-in-law, Dan and Carol Anderson, of Atlantic; and a brother-in-law, Jason Anderson, and his wife, Lori, of Atlantic.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Anna Sailer and Herman W. Grote; and an uncle, Ralph Grote.
